HURRICANE RITA STATEMENT
Dupont Building Dupont Building Inc. and the Community of Cameron has been hit hard by Hurricane Rita. I have been at a loss for words to describe what has happened. It has taken us three weeks to finalize on a plan of action that will best get Dupont Building Inc. back on track.
As some of you were aware we were in the process of moving our plant 30 miles north of the coast to a Community called Grandlake/Sweetlake. The Community is about 17 miles south of I-10 at exit 36 on the east side of Lake Charles. We had been working with the Corps of Engineers on issues and after 15 months were given a full go ahead to develope the new property.
The Monday before Rita hit we completed our site pad which is a 9 acre site in Phase I of a Commerical Development called Cameron Prairie Industial Park. Phase I of the Industial Park is 40 acres with a total of 100 acres available for development. Michelle and I own the Property that is being developed. Since Rita, we have had two Commercial Businesses make decisions to move into the Development and look forward to more, considering the Industial Parts of Lower Cameron have been wiped from earth.
We were planning to be in the new facility by July 1st of 2006, we were trying to get in before the next storm season. It had been 48 years since our community was efected by a storm. Rita however was much stronger than Audrey of 48 years ago. I am pleased to say that due to the fear that we had after Katrina just missed us we had a successful evacuation and there were no fatalities, only loss of property. However it is difficult to complain about what we have been dealt when compared to the recent earthquake that took 40,000 lives.
We will now be open in our new facility on January 2nd of 2006. We are on a fast pace to get the new plant running. We will have steel on the ground to put our shop up in 3-4 weeks, then will set the facility up to manufacture shelters. In the meantime we are only a week or two away from begining operations in a smaller, temporary facility. We will have limited production capabilities through the remainder of the fourth quarter. We will limit production to only that that we can maintain Quality Control on.
We appreciate the concern that many of you have expressed and look forward to many years of future relationship. We are now set up in a temporary office and have the following phone numbers 337-905-5928 and fax number of 337-905-5268. These numbers will be operational sometines Monday, October 17th, 2005. Until then our old number will roll over to the office. Our e-mails are back operating. Michelle, Marcy, Myself, Lena and Connie will be in the office each day. Brien, Chris and Jimmy will have limited office duty and will be play a big role in the rebuilding of Dupont Building.
It was good to go down in lower Cameron and find that 6 shelters that we had set on the coast for Cameron Communications were about the only buildings that survided the storm. We had 163 mile per hour winds for 2 hours and 140 mph winds for 10 hours.
We had stored many of our finished shelters on our new pad in GrandLake/Sweetlake and they did not sustain any damage. The community, however was withour power and communication for two weeks.
Again, we appreciated everyones support and look forward to business better than usual.
Thanks,
Ricky W. Guidry
